Hello! This is Laura Holt's Closet and today we study another of Laura's fabulous power suits.
The Outfit
At this point in Act 2 of the episode, Laura is still searching for information about treasure from California's 19th century gold rush. It's a new day and she dons another suit. This one is navy blue, collarless and has a one-button jacket. It also has a tea-length pencil skirt. It seems to be from the exact same pattern as the first suit in "Vintage Steele" (i.e. the best outfit ever on Remington Steele).
What is whimsical in one episode is all business in another.
In "Vintage Steele," this suit silhouette is cream or ecru and paired with a silk scarf that can easily come off to showcase Laura's wilder side.
In today's episode, "Steele's Gold," the suit is in a darker color for that no-nonsense vibe. The detective meets with a braniac in a room filled with computers, so the wardrobe designer (Paula Giokaris) pairs the ensemble with a red and blue collegiate tie.
It's amazing what colors and accessories can do to the same suit.
Like the black suit earlier in this episode, this navy suit is a bit severe, but the actress wears it well.
Another redeeming factor is the character development this ensemble undergirds between Laura and another character. Laura's red striped tie matches the sweater on Murphy, a fellow detective with whom she often shares the same opinions on a case.
There is a love triangle between Remington (Pierce Brosnan), Laura (Stephanie Zimbalist) and Murphy (James Read) that never quite goes the way it should.
