Steele Trap: Indigo Sweater, Gray A-Line Skirt

As the first season of "Remington Steele" wears on, you'll see more relaxed scenes at the agency, offering us fun office wear alternatives for Laura besides her usual suits.

Hello and welcome to Laura Holt's Closet! Today we turn to another scene and another outfit in "Steele Trap" (Season 1, Episode 10).

The Outfit

As our sleuthing team mulls over its choices in a case, we see that Laura is not wearing her power suit today, she's even dusting off a picture as if she's not expecting any clients right now. Remington, in his usual three-piece suit, is relaxed enough to be in his shirtsleeves.

Ironically, the one time when Laura and Remington are dressed down a bit, Murphy steps up his wardrobe and wears a wool jacket and button down shirt, instead of his active wear and bomber jacket styles.
Back to Laura.
She tops a simple, gray a-line skirt with a wool, indigo sweater. To accentuate her waist in the thick fabric, Laura wears a contrasting brown belt around her midriff. This trend  of wearing a belt over a top and without belt loops resurfaced a few years ago.

We have recently seen in another outfit in a different episode, how the costumer for this season addresses the problem of not allowing the waist to get lost among fall and winter fabrics. It's basically the same concept in that episode as in this one- draw the eye to the waist with a narrow belt over the top of thick fabric.

Let's recreate Laura's ensemble.

Laura wears this sweater again, briefly, in "Steele Flying High." It's even more of an inspiration when the character in a show reuses her clothes in different combinations. This helps give a sense of how we too can stretch our wardrobe.
