This character tends to avoid trendy fashions and is stylish, which makes many of her outfits timeless and inspiring. This is why we delve into Laura Holt's closet.
Today we study an outfit in the opening credits for Season 1. Paula Giokaris supervised costumes for the women during the first season.
The Outfit
The beige, wool blazer is a great choice for cooler seasons.
The fedora is a traditionally masculine hat and is very severe. Laura's voluminous hair softens the look. See how it's shading her eyes ever so slightly? It gives off an air of mystery like a pair of sunglasses, but without completely closing her off from the person she's interviewing for clues. She looks authoritative and accessible all at once.
The blouse is light grey instead of a standard white shirt, so the contrast between it and the beige blazer isn't so stark. The color also echos the darker grey in the hat.
The best part is the knotted scarf instead of a tie. The scarf mellows what would otherwise be a forbidding look. She has a lot going on near her face, which is probably why the scarf matches the blouse in color and tone. This seems to prevent the collar area from looking too busy.
Let's recreate the look.

The opening credits have mostly fall and winter outfits. We'll have to delve through a few episodes to get something summery.
What will Laura wear next?
